How PlexusX works
PlexusX is a Windows colour app for games. It is not Plexus Worldwide or Plexus legal software.
It changes the colour your monitor shows. It never touches the game. Here is how it does it, so you can check.
Three ways it changes colour
A colour filter from Windows
Four sliders feed one colour filter. They are saturation, brightness, contrast and temperature. Windows lays the filter over your whole screen. It is the same Windows tool the Magnifier uses. So every game under it gets the new colour too.
The gamma table on your graphics card
Gamma goes into a small table your graphics card keeps for each monitor. PlexusX sets it with a normal Windows call. With a plan, your look also moves here when a game takes over the whole screen.
NVIDIA's own digital vibrance
On NVIDIA, the vibrance slider moves NVIDIA's own Digital Vibrance. That is the same setting as in the NVIDIA Control Panel. On AMD and Intel, the Windows filter does it. It also takes over past NVIDIA's 100%.
What it never does
- It never reads or writes a game's memory.
- It never changes a game's files.
- It never puts code into a game, or into any other program.
- It never installs a driver.
- It installs and runs as your own Windows user. It needs no admin rights.
One repair button can restart it as admin, if Windows blocks a colour change. Windows asks you first.
How it knows which game you play
To switch your look for each game, it checks the names of the programs running. That is the same list Task Manager shows.
It also listens for Windows' own signal that a new window came to the front. Neither one opens the game.
Other things it changes, only when you use them
The Resolution tab
Your resolution, refresh rate and HDR. A new mode asks you to keep it, and the old one comes back if you don't answer. On NVIDIA, a custom resolution you keep is saved in NVIDIA's own list.
The Customize tab
Windows' own look: dark mode, accent colour, the taskbar and some Explorer options. These are normal Windows settings for your user. Switch one back and it changes back.
Your monitor's own settings
With a plan, the Monitor page can change the brightness and colour of the monitor itself. It sends the change down the display cable.
The crosshair
With a plan, a crosshair is drawn in a see-through window on top of your screen. It is not inside the game, and it stays off until you turn it on.
Start with Windows
If you turn it on, PlexusX adds itself to your startup list. Turn it off and it is removed.
The plexusx:// link
The installer adds a plexusx:// link for your user. It lets a preset on our site open in the app, and it asks you before it changes anything. Uninstalling removes it.
Where it connects
plexusx.lol- Our server. Your licence, updates, the Library and a plan check-in.
api.github.com- Release notes, only for a build that shipped without them.
127.0.0.1- Your own PC, for a few minutes while you sign in.
- Your home network
- Only while the Phone window is open, so your phone can reach this PC.
- Your Discord app
- If Discord runs on this PC, PlexusX shows up as your activity there.
Check it yourself. Open Resource Monitor, go to Network, and watch PlexusX while it runs.
How to undo it
- Switch the colour off, or close PlexusX, and your screen goes back.
- Uninstall it from Windows Settings, like any other app.
- Your settings stay in two PlexusX folders. Delete them to remove every trace.
Official download
PlexusX comes from one place: plexusx.lol. We never send it on Discord, by DM or behind a short link. If you got it any other way, it did not come from us.
